Project Name: Claude “Bud” Lewis Carlsbad Desalination Plant
Client:
San Diego County Water Authority (SDCWA)
Location:
Carlsbad, California, USA
Project Scope: An award-winning desalination plant in Carlsbad for the San Diego County Water Authority (SDCWA) that provides clean water to about 300,000 people and generates over $50m annually to the regional economy. The Carlsbad desalination plant overcame significant practical, regulatory and economic hurdles to deliver a cost-effective and environmentally friendly water supply.IDE and its partners worked for more than 10 years to develop a desalination solution that meets all the challenging criteria. Capacity: 54M gallons (204,412 m3) per day Technology: Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) Project type: Engineering-Procurement-Construction (EPC) + Operation & Maintenance (O&M) Commission date: 2015  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hqFIVMqteu8

Project Name: Charles E. Meyer Desalination Plant, Santa Barbara
Client:
City of Santa Barbara
Location:
City of Santa Barbara, California, USA
Project Scope: Exceptional drought conditions demand exceptional thinking, and in July 2015 the City of Santa Barbara decided to reactivate the Charles E. Meyer Desalination Plant. This plant had been in long-term standby mode since 1991, so significant engineering was required to bring the plant online to provide a significant contribution to the city’s water needs and overcome the constant threat of drought. The 10,560 m3/day (2.8 MGD) plant was commissioned in May 2017, with the option to expand easily to a capacity of 25,344 m3/day (6.7 MGD). Given the plant’s modular construction and fully automated operation, CAPEX & OPEX were dramatically reduced and currently, the plant provides 30% of the city’s water supply. Capacity: Initial 3,125 AFY (10,560 m3/day) with possible further extension to 7,500 AFY (25,344 m3/day) Technology: Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) Project Type: EPC and O&M – 5 years + possible extension (IDE) Footprint: 1.45 acres Commission Date: May 2017
