Project References

Project: Governor’s Harbour 2.0M USGPD SWRO

Location: Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands
Project Scope: This facility is a design, build, finance and operate SWRO plant. The site is located on the island Grand Cayman near the world famous Seven Mile Beach. Consolidated Water’s first desalination equipment was located near this site, which at that time also included a wastewater treatment plant. Mechanical vapour compression distillation units were installed on this site starting in 1979. Seawater for these units came from an open sea intake located just off of Seven Mile Beach and the water produced was used to service tourist and residential properties located along Seven Mile Beach.

Project: Blue Hills, Bahamas 12M USGPD SWRO

Location: Blue Hills, Bahamas
Project Scope:12 MUSGPD SWRO Plant delivered via a Design, Build, Finance, Own and Operate project delivery model. This is the largest seawater reverse osmosis desalination facility owned and operated by Consolidated Water Co. Ltd and provides water for the Water and Sewer Corporation of the Bahamas. Blue Hills is also the largest SWRO facility operating in the Bahamas and is also the largest SWRO facility in the world operated by direct diesel drive (due to the unreliable and high cost of local electricity) and the second largest to utilize deep wells as a feedwater source. Deepwells are BAT for a low environmental footprint and a key area of CWCO’s expertise.

Project: Red Gate, 1.32M USGPD SWRO

Location: Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands
Project Scope: Located near the Owen Roberts International Airport, this facility was commissioned in 1990 with a capacity of 350,000 US gallons per day. Over the years, as demand dictated, this facility was expanded to its current capacity of over 1.32 million US gallons of water per day. The plant, upgraded in May 2010, utilizes Energy Recovery Inc.’s energy recovery devices to recover energy from the high pressure brine stream.
